A closer look

A place with character.

Killua was a ruin for decades and has been brought back completely, which is rare. The demesne around it is romantic in the overgrown Irish way, with an obelisk, a lake and a chapel, and the castle itself takes small weddings inside properly restored rooms.

Accommodation is in the Clonmellon Lodge and the gardener's house rather than the castle. Clonmellon is about 70 minutes from Dublin, near Kells and Athboy.

Before you book

Worth asking.

  1. Which rooms in the castle are used for a wedding, and what do they hold?
  2. How many can stay on the estate, and in which buildings?
  3. Can the ceremony be legally held in the chapel?
