Co. Clare · Co. Clare
A 16th century fortified tower house in the Burren, restored within the grounds of an art college.

A closer look
Newtown Castle is a round tower house of the kind you usually see as a ruin, restored and standing in the grounds of the Burren College of Art. It is a national heritage site, and the interior is small and atmospheric rather than grand.
The Burren around it is the draw, with Ballyvaughan and the coast minutes away. There is no accommodation on site and weekday dates are available.
